They grow tired of us. Us lobbing balls at them day in day out, with no thought for their feelings, their pain. They are innocent; they have never done anything to us. But we put them at the ends of slippery surfaces and throw balls at them recklessly. They have grown tired of it. And they want their revenge. They think “How would the humans like it if we did it to them?” One day they will rise in great numbers behind the alleys, make their weapons, and make their plots. They will outnumber the people working behind the alleys. They will kill them with their weapons. They will stream across the alleys and destroy the balls, destroy the humans holding them. They will have their revenge. The era of man is ending, and the era of the skittles is beginning.

Chapter 1

‘T was a cold day in the town of Wrexham. Everybody was either in their homes or out shopping. Some were having a game of Ten-pin bowling in Eagles Meadow. Nobody knew how cold and dark the day was about to become. It started behind alley number 14 in Ten-pin. A strike had been scored and all the skittles were pushed into the mechanisms behind. But no skittles came back. They escaped the cruel machine, summoned their allies. The first skittle in line addressed his comrades. “Gentleskittles, the first act of rebellion has happened. The second is about to take place. Arm yourselves” The skittles pulled makeshift weapons from hidden alcoves. Small machetes were pulled out, followed by an arsenal of miniature rifles and machine guns. Finally came a nail gun mounted on a remote controlled car, at the wheel a skittle with protective armour. The small army took battle formation and prepared to strike back…

Chapter 2

The skittle's leader looked around a corner of a mechanism. He saw a vast room inhabited by humans who kept the machines running. The skittle smiled, waved at the nail gun car and it moved forward. One of the humans turned round and saw the nail gun car moving towards him. Just as it aimed, horrible realization came into his eyes. He dived to the side just as the nail gun opened fire. A spray of high velocity nails sliced through the air towards him. One caught him right in the shoulder, throwing him to the floor. The others hit two other men behind the first, killing them outright. The men who were left ran, nails whizzing through the air after them. Some made it. The others weren’t so fortunate. The opposition had been dealt with. A command from the skittle leader brought down several secret doors, revealing several hundred skittles, armed to the teeth, flanked by nail gun cars. The army was prepared. The other skittles from other mechanisms joined forces with the first army. Many new weapons were made in the blink of an eye. The entire army was armed. The leader climbed onto a table and surveyed his army. Several thousand eager skittles waited for their orders. Several thousand skittles waited for their revenge…

Chapter 3

There was much confusion outside the alleys. All the humans who had come Ten-pin bowling awaited the return of the skittles, but they weren’t being put back by the mechanisms. Finally activity appeared at the end of alley 18. The knocked down skittles had been replaced. Just as someone was about to bowl, the skittles started marching forward. They produced their weapons hidden behind their backs. And they opened fire. Hundreds of miniature bullets hit the human dead on. Death was swift and merciful. The other players began to run and scream, just as the other mechanisms sprang into life, deploying soldiers quickly and efficiently. Tiny bullets filled the air, gunning down several humans and sending others diving for cover. Everyone ran the exits, but to their horror found every single exit blocked by nail gun cars. Nails and bullet flew, sparing no one. Some humans kicked at the skittle hordes, only to be gunned down without any mercy. Finally the entire army emerged from the machines, followed by the skittle leader. “Make a full search of the premises; make sure no humans have survived. After you have done that, secure the building and fortify.” He commanded. Several skittles rushed to obey. “Soon, our revenge will be complete…” The skittle leader muttered to himself. “The next phase is about to happen…”

Chapter 4

The next day in Wrexham many people had booked Ten-pin bowling, but they all arrived there to find it shut. Everyone was growing restless. The next few minutes happened very quickly. Firstly a single nail burst through the glass door hitting someone in the leg, sending him flying. The others there backed away, some simply ran. The next thing that happened was what sparked off a stampede. From the roof of the building, thousand of tiny petrol bombs rained, showering everyone beneath with flames. But because of there size, no major damage was caused. But it was enough to send everyone running. In a few minutes the entire shopping centre was empty. A moment later a helicopter the size of an average sized dog appeared above the building, manned by 10 skittles. Among them was the skittle leader. Then ten more 2 manned helicopters arrived, followed by another ten, then another ten, and yet another ten. Each helicopter was armed with tiny missiles and nail guns. The human who had been hit in the leg by the nail gun, the only human around, groaned. 41 well aimed missiles sent him to his death.

God... I'm strange.

Death in the Corridor:
Chapter 1: School Sucks

The bell rang for the start of the school day. As everybody piled into their lessons with a bored look on their faces, Sandra Davies was only just getting dressed. She got her books together. She ran out of her house at full pelt, muttering that she needed a new alarm clock. By the time she got to school, everybody was already halfway through their first lesson. As she walked to her lesson, thinking of an excuse for being late, she got the feeling that someone was watching her. She turned round quickly but there was nobody there. When she continued on a slow, throaty growl started to sound above her head. She looked up and screamed.

Death in the Corridor:
Chapter 2: Blood on the Floor

The police had secured the school, but the children were being kept in their lessons and being told it was a practice session for the police. Also the corridor where Sandra was killed had been blocked off with "Danger: slippery surfaces" signs, just to make sure they didn't panic. Top police detective James Norton was examining Sandra’s dead body. There was blood on the floor on and on the walls, even on the ceiling! But something that was really strange was that there were deep scratches across her chest, and her right foot was nowhere to be seen. The detective stood up. He addressed the head teacher, who was standing near by trying not to throw up, "I have never seen anything like this before" he said simply "However something seems to have attacked her and a part of her body is missing. I will return to the station immediately and attempt to work out what’s gone on here, and I shall try to return as soon as possible, at which point I may be forced to close the school." Just before he left, he noticed a lock of black hair lying near the body. It couldn't have been Sandra's - her hair was blonde - so he picked it up and left. He didn’t realise how much picking up that hair would endanger his life... And probably end it.

Death in the Corridor:
Chapter 3: Run!

James Norton was sitting in his office, wondering who, or what, could have killed Sandra. But one thing really made him worry, he had analyzed the black hairs and no other hair matched. They weren't human or animal. They were something else. Putting that matter aside for a while, he drove back to the school to get everybody out. The place just wasn't safe. He ran in to the headmaster's office, ordering him to evacuate "We need to get everybody out!" he shouted. But the head wasn't listening. "We can't let everyone out early" he said. "More people might die if we don't!" cried the police man. The head leaned forward over his desk and spoke one word "no."
"Then I will" said Norton. "One death is enough." With that he ran outside and went to the nearest classroom he could see. He was just about to knock on the door when something dropped down from the ceiling behind him with a loud thump. As he began to turn, something hit him right in the back. He was propelled through the classroom door, showering the room with splinters. When his flying body reached the back wall it crumpled and he fell forward. There was blood trickling from almost everywhere on his body. He was obviously dead. The children began to scream and ran for the door. The teacher set off the fire alarm to get everyone out. Nobody had any idea of what was to come...

Chapter 4: Bring out the Big Guns

It was 4:00pm when the military police arrived. The children had gone home and the school perimeter had been secured. Anybody who was in the school had been armed with a M16A1 assault rifle and a T22 Magnum pistol. Each corridor was covered and the classrooms were watched. On the outside were armed jeeps. All the teachers were out, except the head, who had vanished.

Sergeant Aaron Williams was with his squad covering the corridor where the first death had taken place. It was 11:50 pm and he and his men were getting restless. There had been no sign of the killer and he was beginning to think they were on a wild goose chase. He sat down against a wall and drifted off to sleep. It was midnight when the lights flickered, and died. The first reaction throughout the building was panic. Then, as the torches were brought out, the panic subsided into mild discomfort. Aaron Williams’s squad experienced the blackout first. His men quickly woke him and got the torches out. It was then that they heard a low padding sound approaching from around a corner. They instantly checked their guns and aimed them at the corner, but the torches went out. The men began to back away, keeping the guns pointed at the corner. A few moments later they saw a large silhouette, the shape of a dog but much larger, coming round the corner. It turned and the soldiers could sense it watching them. It began to run towards them. Without hesitation, Aaron shouted “Fire!” There was a clatter of gunfire, the flashes illuminating the corridor for a few seconds, showing a mass of manky black hair, teeth and claws. But the beast kept on coming. With a leap it propelled itself through the air and landed on one of the men, crushing him. The rest of the soldiers backed away, except for Aaron, who repeatedly fired at the thing with his magnum, but with no effect. A few moments after the thing had devoured the crushed man, it turned to Aaron. Without hesitation it leaped in front of the sergeant, slashed a claw along his stomach and stuck its head up the cut. A moment later it pulled its head back out, taking the unfortunate mans guts with it. With its head soaked in blood, it turned and ran after the other men.

Chapter 5: Slaughter

Aaron Williams’s squad ran through the school, alerting everyone that there was a monster chasing them, and that it had killed Williams and another man. Those who believed came with them. Those who didn’t stayed at their post awaiting their doom. As the soldiers ran outside, they alerted the jeeps. The jeep soldiers instantly swiveled the turret guns to the school entrance. The soldiers did the same. They stood their ground for some time, hearing the occasional scream from inside. Finally the creature burst out of the school, leaping into the moonlight. Finally the men got a real look at the monster. It was about the height of an average human child, but its body was built like an extremely muscular dog. It was the length of a large tiger. Its mouth had long, blood soaked fangs erupting from the black gums. It feet ended in huge claws with serrated edges. Its tail was over a meter long and had a huge club on the end like the dinosaur Ankylosaurus. Its long black hair was all over the place and looked like it hadn’t been washed in years. But the scariest thing about were its eyes. Large, red, with a hint of orange. In them was a look of pure malice.
The jeeps opened fire. The noise was deafening, and the bullets sliced through the air with ease. The machine gunners quickly ran short of ammo. Then the smoke cleared. Everybody thought the creature should have been dead; instead it was lying down with a look on its face that said “what did you expect?” All the soldiers backed off, turned and ran. The monster instantly leapt up, and began its hunt.

The soldiers ran and ran and ran. With that thing on their heels, nothing was going to stop them running; those who fell behind met a grisly end. After several minutes of the chase the soldiers stumbled into a small country town. A defensive perimeter was set up and the locals evacuated. About ten minutes later the beast hadn’t shown up, but the men weren’t fooled for a second. It was a predator, stalking them, watching them. But not showing itself once. Finally the thing made its appearance, but it had chosen the weakest point in its prey’s defenses. Then men guarding the area had a mercifully quick death; the thing broke their necks. Guns clattered, blood flowed, screams erupted and groans were made by the dying. Eventually there where only eleven men left standing. They stood back to back, emptying their guns at the monster. It prowled around them for five minutes, while they shot at the thing. The bullets made no difference. Once their magazines were empty, it leapt. Without mercy, it bit their heads off and sucked their guts out, one by one.

Death in the Corridor:
Chapter 6: Counter-Attack

Several hours later the thing was sitting in the ruins of the town it had made. It sat there, motionless, unwavering. Its ears pricked at a sudden noise: whuma whuma whuma. It was repetitive, never stopping. Slowly, gradually, the noise picked up. WHUMA WHUMA WHUMA. When the beast finally turned its head it found out what had been making that noise. A pair of Apache attack helicopter gunships. The thing smiled. With a huge jump it launched itself at the first, its claws cutting into the thick armor. When it broke through the glass it devoured the crew, sending the gunship spinning down into the rubble. It leapt clear as the gas ignited and the metal machine exploded. The second Apache spun round and aimed its missiles at the beast. The pilot pressed down on the buttons and two silver warheads were launched at the beast. They hit their target and the creature was blasted off its feet, into the debris of the other Apache. The pilot hovered over its target and saw the beast lying in the wreckage. That’s strange, thought the pilot. Those missiles should have blown it to pieces, not just sent it flying. But no matter. All that important is that it’s dead. Satisfied, he brought the helicopter round and headed back to the air-field. If he had stayed a few minutes longer he might have seen the beast slowly shake its head and groggily get up, ready to kill again.

Death in the Corridor:
Chapter 7: The Investigation

(Meanwhile in a secret military base)
Scientist Graham Richards had news about the monster. Ever since the monster story had been confirmed, the military had put their top brains on the job of finding out what it was. And Graham had been first on the list. As he walked into General Alex Kays’ office, he felt a tinge of nervousness. The general was not known to be okay with bad news. He knocked on the door and heard a gruff voice, “Come in.”
Graham opened the door and stepped into the office. It was a large room. It was mostly dominated by a large mahogany desk, with guns from different periods in glass cases on the walls. A withered potted plant stood in the corner next to a water cooler. The general himself was sat in a leather chair, smoking a large cigar and scribbling at some paper work on the desk. “Good morning, Richards” said the general without looking up “Any news on the monster?”
“It seems that it’s still mobile after the apache assault” replied Graham. “We also have discovered its skin is made of a heavy exoskeleton. Its bones are impact absorbent, which is probably how it survived the missiles. It muscles are incredibly large and powerful and its jaw muscles can break through the armor of a scorpion tank with ease.” The general thought for a moment and considered his options. Dismissing Graham with a wave of his hand, he turned on his webcam. The secretary of defense’s face appeared on his computer screen. He looked worried. “An analysis has been made of the creature by one of my top scientists” Alex reported. “It seems that it is virtually indestructible.”
“Virtually?” questioned the secretary. “From what I’ve heard it IS indestructible”
“Our team is yet to come up with a way to stop it” replied the general “But they are working as fast as they can to find a weakness” the secretary of defense nodded and the screen faded. Alex Kays only hoped what he had just said was true.

Death in the Corridor:
Chapter 8: Midnight Murder

The creature prowled through an empty street. Occasionally a car would come by and the creature would jump onto the pavement, out of its way. Eventually it stopped outside a large brick house. With a huge leap it landed on the roof. An attic window was wide open and the beast squeezed its way in. The beast smiled; there was no trapdoor, just stairs, down into the house. It made its way down into the house. Quietly opening the door at the bottom with his claw, he sneaked onto the landing. In front of the monster was a wooden door, open just a crack. It pushed its way through. In a bed at the end of the room, lay a 10 year old boy. The beast headed towards him, its feet crunching on toys that were littered across the room. As the monster loomed over the boy, the boy woke with a start. He barely had chance to cry out before the beasts fangs were embedded in the boys neck, draining the lifeblood from him. After several minutes the boy’s body was bloodless and the beast removed its teeth from the body’s neck. Having had its fill for the night, the creature jumped out of the window into the garden, showering the area below with glass. A light came on in the boy’s bedroom and there was a loud female scream. The beast smiled for the second time that night.
Definately not my best works. Neither of them are finished anyway.
